2011 was a fabulous year for jewellery. Trends ranged from stacking bangles (also known as the “arm party”), to large stone necklaces, and bold earrings. 12,000 Carat Tanzanite Discovered

TanzaniteOne Ltd. has recovered a 12,000-plus ct. tanzanite, one of the largest tanzanite gemstones ever found.

The 12,100 ct. rough stone was discovered at the company's flagship tanzanite project in the Simanjiro district of Tanzania. Initial examinations have indicated that it is the third largest tanzanite recovered by the company and could be the third largest tanzanite stone ever found.

It has everything a precious stone should have: magnificent color, excellent hardness and outstanding brilliance. In addition to that, it is an extremely rare gemstone, especially in its finer qualities.

If stones could tell stories, then ruby would have been one of the greatest storytellers. One such lore says that if you dream of rubies, you can predict success in money and love. Many people believe that if you are wearing a ruby and it grows darker, you are in mortal danger. Also, if you wear a ruby, you can live in peace, even amongst enemies. Whatever be the myths and stories, one thing that is certain is that after diamond, rubies have held the imagination of a man the most. Their bright red color makes them one of the most eye-catching decorative gems. Kings and princes of yore were known for their almost fetish desire for this gem. They had them encrusted in their crowns, daggers handles, shoes, necklaces, and so on. Since ruby is believed to have "magical powers," it is often regarded as the queen of jewels. Read on to learn some more interesting facts about rubies.

Fun Facts about Rubies
• The word "ruby" comes from the Latin term rubens, which means red.
• It is known as the stone of love.
• The king of Burma (now Myanmar) was known as the 'Lord of Rubies', as he claimed all the rubies over 6 carats as his own.
• People born in the month of July have ruby as their birth stone.
• Ruby is the traditional 15th and 40th anniversary gift.
• In the Bible, ruby is the most commonly named precious stone.
• High ranking Chinese mandarins were given rubies, as they were thought to provide guidance and teaching.
• The Burmese believe that if a soldier keeps a ruby under the skin, he will become invincible; while the Hebrews believed that if a dragon was carved on a ruby, it would bring prosperity and health.
• Hindus believe that wearing a ruby protects them from their enemies.
• There are hardly any perfect rubies, as almost all the rubies have flaws. Those rubies that are flawless are even more expensive than diamonds.
• Rubies belong to the gem family called corundum. This family also contains sapphires. Apart from their color, Rubies are identical to Sapphires and are comprised of the mineral known as Corundum. The only difference between the two stones is the presence of chromium oxide in rubies. Ruby's colors are due to these trace elements.

I was talking to one of our customers and he asked me ‘what happened with your good billboard slogans like “Happy WIFE, happy LIFE”, you don’t use them any more? That made me think - Our advertising agent advised us to have a single message and a consistent look. So last year we used “Perfection our passion…. Love our inspiration…..”

This year we decided to go back to our humourous and edgy slogans. Our new billboard on the N1 Highway is our first example. More to come, watch this space…..
